So around 2:30 a.m. it became apparent that the Pitocin was definitely working. We have been told by all of our Docs, as well as in our labor and delivery class, that Pitocin causes contractions that are much more powerful, and therefore much more painful, than the human body can produce unaided. This seemed to be the case as my stalwart wife cringed in obvious agony at each new contraction. Thus the decision was made to relieve her pain.
The procedure itself appeared to be quite uncomfortable, but within ten minutes of receiving the epidural things were much better, and within twenty she couldn't even feel the contractions anymore. Needless to say, this is an improvement.
We are now waiting patiently for her to dilate completely, and maybe we will get some much needed sleep while we wait.
